1.0 OPENING OF PUBLIC SESSION –

1.3 Approval of Agenda: Approved as written.
1.4 Approval of Minutes: Change wording to adjust wording for 3.1. 2025 – 2026 Budget discussion on creating a line item for student needs. We used the word, “unmet needs” and Beau felt it could be misunderstood.
1.5 Schedule Next Meeting: Due to the Washington D.C. trip and Outdoor School, we are moving our meeting to Wednesday May 28, 2025 at 6pm.
1.6 Budget: The projected carryover went from 24% to 21%. Spending is up a little because of the end of year and more spending is to come with the cost of summer packets & 25-26 supply purchases.
1.7 Financial Report: The Board has received and reviewed their financial packets.
1.8 Staff Presentations:
– Presentation by Jill Chapman (6th grade) on 1st aid/CPR certification and the Fall Creek/Lowell Education Foundation Mini grant she received. Miss Jill talked about the equipment she was able to purchase with the grant, how she earned her certification, and she shared that 11 students have earned their first aid cards through her class!

– Presentation by Nikki Bevans (via Zoom) – 3rd grade class teacher. In 3rd grade, the students do an additional SEL/life skills curriculum. Miss Nikki shared about the Big Life Journal and how it has benefitted her students.

2.0 PUBLIC COMMENT – Opportunity for Citizens to address items not on the agenda. Persons wishing to address the Board on any school related issue not listed elsewhere on the agenda are invited to do so now. Audience time is not intended as a forum for public debate. Questions raised may require further investigation. Normally, the board will wait until its next meeting before responding to concerns raised.

3.0 ACTION DISCUSSION
3.1 – 2025 – 2026 Budget discussion – Next year’s budget was reviewed and discussed in full detail. The board is requesting to add a Strategic Planning fund to the budget for the 2025-2026 school year. The “deficit spending” total can be transferred to the new Strategic Planning fund.

3.2 – 2025 – 2026 Calendar update – The 2025 – 2026 calendar is approved and ready to go out to staff and families. We embraced Monday, November 10th as a day off. The calendar will go home in 4th quarter report cards, will be added to the summer packet, and Kelly has already started adding the dates to our online calendar.
3.3 – 2025 – 2026 Strategic Planning – Beau attended the staff meeting in early April. He presented the role of the board, the 24-25 strategic plan goals, how the strategic planning process is used to help us meet these goals and asked the staff for feedback for our 25-26 strategic plan. We reviewed last year’s strategic plans and brainstormed new ideas for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. A common theme throughout our discussion was including more SEL/life skills into our character education program, especially in the upper grades.
3.4 – Appoint board member – Becky Bessett has accepted the vacant board member position. Her renewal date will be in June of 2026.

4.0 INFORMATION AND STUDY

4.1 Board Chair report – Julie reminded us about the Public Meeting Law Training requirements. Jessica graduates from George Fox University with her Masters and Principal’s License on Monday. Up to this point, she has held a Charter School Administrator’s license. There is no audit report available.

4.2 Administrator’s Report – State testing is scheduled. The outdoor school trip is finalized. MVA was granted a Trawler’s scholarship and with this, the students will be able to go on the Marine Discovery Tour. There is an all-school track meet on Thursday April 24 at 12pm. MVA is changing the school release time to 2:50pm for the 2025-2026 school year. OSBA Conference is August 8 – August 10 in Salem, all board members are planning to attend. The Middle School did a service project today at the George Hake Center. Teacher appreciation week is May 5th – 8th.
