Board of Director’s Meeting

Tuesday, October 29th, 2024

6:00 pm – Public Session in the 7th grade classroom.

The Mountain View Academy School Board encourages public input.  Persons wishing to address the Board on school related issues – either in person, virtually, or via email – are invited to do so either when the item is presented on the agenda, or under the “Public Comments” section.  In the interest of time and order, presentations from the public are limited to three (3) minutes per person, and the total time for individual agenda items shall not exceed (21) minutes.  An individual speaker’s allotted time may not be increased by a donation of time from members of the public in attendance.  If you wish to speak under Public Comments, please complete a Public Comment Form and turn it in to Board Secretary Stephanie Johnson or the public may submit written comments by email to MVAboardsecretary@mtviewacademy.org. Clearly label the subject line as: “Public Comment: Board meeting”. The deadline to receive public comment is noon on the day of the board meeting. The Board requests complaints or charges against an employee be held in Executive Session.  Individuals who require disability-related accommodations, modifications, or a virtual option to participate in the Board meeting should provide written notice to the Director 24 hours prior to the meeting.

1.0 OPENING OF PUBLIC SESSION –

1.3 Approval of Agenda: Agenda is approved as written.

1.4 Approval of Minutes:  One adjustment is noted.

1.5 Schedule Next Meeting:  Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 6pm

1.6 Budget: There is a dip in the enrollment budget as we look to fill our open spots.

1.7 Financial Report: The board received and reviewed their financial packets.

 

 

2.0 PUBLIC COMMENT Opportunity for Citizens to address items not on the agenda. Persons wishing to address the Board on any school related issue not listed elsewhere on the agenda are invited to do so now.  Audience time is not intended as a forum for public debate. Questions raised may require further investigation. Normally, the board will wait until its next meeting before responding to concerns raised. 

3.0 ACTION DISCUSSION

3.1 Animals on campus – We will continue with no pets on campus as recommended by our insurance agent.

3.2 Discussion about new website – The new website will be able to send out alerts and message families in case of emergencies. It is only $1,500 -$2,000/yr. We are thankful that the Lowell School District will be guiding us through this change.

3.3 Bathroom update – No permits in hand. Additional testing was completed, per an email from JBE Construction. Slow progress is being made. We are hopeful to have the permits soon.

3.4 Substitute teacher pay – According to the ODE substitute pay has increased to $211.92. Jessica requests that we raise our substitute pay so we can keep our substitutes.  Motion to increase the substitute pay to $215 per day of 10 days or less, and to $250 per day if over 10 days: Amber Burton.

4.0 INFORMATION AND STUDY

 

4.1 Strategic plan quarterly report – The Measurable Objectives: Group training is complete. The salary study was beneficial to our staff. Teachers are connecting academics to character in creative and fun ways. Parent involvement has increased with the chaperone training and volunteer help with electives and holiday party planning. We updated the reading curriculum for 1st – 3rd grades. The bathroom project permits are in process. The communication and trust between charter and district is stronger. The board is working on how to grow the relationship between the staff and board members.

 

4.2 Board Chair report – No comment

 

4.3 Administrator’s Report – It’s the end of the 1st quarter. Report cards are going out and parent/teacher conferences will be scheduled. OMSI is coming to MVA on November 13th for some family fun. There are vacant spots in two grades. Jessica is working through the waiting list.

 

4.4. Board Comments –There is a question about politics in the classroom. Advice given is to visit with the teacher to gain a better understanding of how this is being taught in their classroom.
